Presidents Message:
- Alison talked about final fundraiser for playground - we need to write a proposal and submit it to 3 different. Robyn volunteered to help write proposal with Alison. $17,600 saved so far towards playground plus funding - approximately $20,000. March is deadline for getting decision made.
- Movie night suggestion is February 25th. Donation jar. Food from 5;30-6;00. Movie starts at 630. Need to organise people to volunteer for this.
- This is last month for Subway. Subway has proved to be a stress-less lunch from the organizing aspect. Alison asked if we wanted to continue with Subway or switch to Booster Juice. Everyone voted for Subway to continue. Last Thursday of every month.
- Bottle drive this upcoming Saturday.
School Planning Counsel:
- Mahia explained that SPC (School Planning Counsel) meets 4 times a year but has never actually reported to PAC and she would like to change that.
- District budget priorities - each school gets a list of categories to pick from - you can pick top three priorities that work best for your school eg: Literacy and writing, Numeracy and Social Responsibility, In-service time (EA) psychologist, speech and language, psycho educational assessments, Curriculum and Release time (for teachers to take time out to help asses a child)
- Mahia pointed out that Technology focused fundraising should be a huge priority for our school, once the playground has been taken care of. Other schools have lots of money to put towards technology. Discussion on technology in classrooms (smart boards, projects, document readers). Fear is that we are going to fall behind other schools. Ms. T pointed out that Ms. Glenn (from Australia who has switched with Mrs. Matheson) brought her own document readers - great for reading books, showing pictures etc on a projector.
- Will be meeting again shortly to discuss future plans for growth of school.
Principal’s Message:
- Ms T discussed a number of upcoming activities/dates:
o January 31st-1st Kindergarten Registration Ready set learn - preparing for kindergarten
o January 20th - Skate Canada
o January 26 - Spirit Day - dress as your favorite book character
o February 8th - Floor Hockey Jamboree - teachers vs. students
- VCP Victoria Confederation of PACS – There is an open invitation to all staff ($55 entry) Ms T requested parents attend workshops in morning, lunch and workshops in afternoon
- Transition is end of February - parents of grade 5, transfer to middle school. If not Cedar Hill, where would you like your child to go? Open Houses will be available – Ms. T suggested attending all of them to know for sure where you wish your child to attend.
- New pilot phone program will begin on Monday. Synervoice. Ms T asks for feedback to find out if there are problems with the system.
Vice Principal’s Message:
- Positive behavior - strategies for calming from a hightened state.
- Social responsibility : survey feedback indicated two lowest levels were
not being able to control anger and how to apply strategies to calm.
- Older kids at school are going to work on a matrix of positive behavior and then go around to younger kids to teach them ways to be implement it

Funding requests
1. Mrs Rose; $81.20 dvd booklet to be watched by EA’s – will cut costs as only one person required to attend seminar and then the DVD can be put into the library for anyone to check out.

2. Mrs. Shortt wrote letter on behalf of all teachers: request for $300 for outside play equipment - bouncy balls, jumping ropes, hula hoops all for outside - older children would be responsible for bringing in and out
